Concrete Calculator

Pick a shape, set waste (default 10%), and see cubic yards plus bag counts for 40, 60, and 80 lb mix. Print or copy a shopping list. No account. Units: feet and inches.

Shape

Default 10% for spillage, an uneven base, and a little left in the mixer. Added before the bag round-up.

Slab

4 in is a thickness people often plan a sidewalk around. This does not say that thickness meets a local rule. The cited mix is published for pours about 2 in or thicker.

Why these numbers

How this was calculated

Volume comes from the shape, then a waste percent (default 10%) is added. Cubic yards are that volume divided by 27 and left in decimals. Bag counts divide the same cubic feet by a published yield and round up, because a store sells whole bags. QUIKRETE Concrete Mix data sheet #1101 states a 40 lb bag yields approximately 0.30 cu ft, a 60 lb bag yields approximately 0.45 cu ft, and an 80 lb bag yields approximately 0.60 cu ft. Buy one size, not all three. This is a planning estimate, not a structural design. Call 811 before you dig.

Bag counts use published yields for a standard concrete mix, not a store partnership. QUIKRETE Concrete Mix data sheet #1101 states a 40 lb bag yields approximately 0.30 cu ft, a 60 lb bag yields approximately 0.45 cu ft, and an 80 lb bag yields approximately 0.60 cu ft. FAQ

How many 80 lb bags are in a cubic yard? At the 0.60 cu ft yield published for QUIKRETE Concrete Mix, 27 ÷ 0.60 = 45 bags per cubic yard before waste. Add your waste percent, then round up to a whole bag.

Why do bag counts round up? Stores sell whole bags. If the math comes out to 36.67 bags, you buy 37. The page shows the exact figure before that round-up.

Where do the bag yields come from? QUIKRETE Concrete Mix data sheet #1101: a 40 lb bag yields approximately 0.30 cu ft, a 60 lb bag approximately 0.45 cu ft, and an 80 lb bag approximately 0.60 cu ft. HomeFixMath is not a QUIKRETE partner. Other mixes, including fast-setting, can yield less — read the bag you buy.

Does this design a footing or meet code? No. It is a volume and shopping estimate only. It does not check thickness, reinforcement, frost depth, or local rules. Verify the pour on site. Call 811 before you dig.
